Southwestern University used a six-run first inning to cruise to a 14-4 win over Howard Payne University in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
Howard Payne scored all four of their runs in the top of the eighth inning. Sam Dollahite singled home Ben Butler. Then with the bases loaded, an Alan Sailors single brought home three runs.
Billy Ray Cruz got the loss for the Jackets throwing 2.0 innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits. Jonathan Morris pitch 4.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out five. Reed Klose and Nathan Howard each saw one inning of relief work.
B. Freeman got the win for Southwestern. He allowed two hits and struck out two in two innings. Southwestern is now 2-2 on the year.
Howard Payne is now 2-2-1 overall and will play at home next Tuesday against Arlington Baptist College at 2:00 pm.
