Brownwood News – Early Mayor, Dr. Robert Mangrum will be discussing the growth and achievements of the previous year, and the upcoming projections for this year during the Early Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon to be held on March 23rd, from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. at Humphrey Pete’s restaurant.

 

Dr. Robert G. Mangrum, Coley Professor of History and Historian at Howard Payne University was elected to the Early City Council in 1998. After serving three terms on the council and two terms as mayor pro tem, Dr. Mangrum was elected mayor of the city of Early in May 2005 and has faithfully served the city and the surrounding community ever since.

Dr. Mangrum attended Hardin-Simmons University in 1970 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science and received a commission as a United States Army Officer. He went on active duty in August 1970, attending Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia; finishing the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he then received training as a 4.2′ Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader. Mangrum was posted to an overseas assignment in Germany from 1971 to 1973. Mangrum continued to serve in the U.S. Army’s Individual Ready Reserve from 1974 to 1998, with varied postings as:
* executive officer, Combat Support Company, 1st of the 5th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division, Ft. Hood;
* Staff Officer, War Plans, G-3 Section, Headquarters, 1st Calvary Division, Ft. Hood;
* staff officer, Active Training Evaluation Section, Directorate Reserve Components, Headquarters III Corps, Ft. Hood;
* S-3 Training officer and commander 5776th Reinforcement Training Unit, Abilene;
* Graduate Faculty, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
