ShopSmall_BlueThe Early Chamber of Commerce will host their monthly luncheon on Friday, November 13th.

Amy Wright of America’s SBDC Northwest Texas Region will be the guest speaker, addressing the importance of shopping at small businesses.

Wright is a business analyst and recently moved to Brown County from Corpus Christi where she worked for Del Mar College, specializing in small business ownership by working with potential small business owners and conducting numerous workshops.  She and her husband owned a successful small business in Corpus Christi, which they eventually sold before making the move to this area.

Shop Small® Saturday began on November 27, 2010 and will be observed this year on Saturday, November 14th.  The U.S. Senate officially recognized this day in 2011, which is encourages shoppers to support small businesses locally.  This date has become a holiday tradition and according to AmericanExpress.com, last year, an estimated $14.3 billion was spent by the 88 million people showed up to Shop Small® on Small Business Saturday®.

It is believed by organizers that this year could be even bigger. Shop Small is a movement encouraging people to shop at small businesses; millions of individuals, businesses, and communities have embraced it nationwide and celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year’s Small Business Saturday is November 28th, 2015.

Holiday shoppers are encouraged to get up, get out and Shop Small.  Because when your customers “Shop Small” this Nov. 28, the money they spend in the community can stay in the community.

“I know personally as a small business owner in today’s economy we can always use pointers and suggestions on how to make things better,” said Early Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shawn Russell.  “So I look forward to hearing what Amy has to say about how to prepare for our Shop Small Saturday.”
