After a delay due to thunderstorms Friday night, the Early Longhorns played the Wall Hawks this afternoon in Early. It was a rough go for the Longhorns as they made some mistakes in the game, but head coach Robbie Tindol told the players after the game that much of it was in their head.
Tindol said to the players, “They (Wall) were a good team & they did some things right, we didn’t do some things right.” Tindol pointed to his head saying, “It’s all up here. It is a matter of attitude & you are the key to make it happen.”
There were some shining moments for the team as they played hard against Wall.
Early in the 2nd quarter, the Longhorn defense forced Wall to punt after sacking the quarterback on 3rd and long. Early scored a touchdown on that next drive my #4 Tucker King by breaking a few tackles along the way. Wall however answered those points quickly with a great kickoff return and long pass on their next drive.
In the second half, Wall moved ahead by scoring two more touchdowns, but in Early’s third possession of the half, #6 Chase Reeves ran in for a touchdown putting more points on the board. The Longhorns forced & recovered a fumble at the tail end of the 3rd quarter. A quick handoff to #12 Ty New gave Early another touchdown in the first few seconds of the 4th quarter.
On Wall’s next possession, #33 Shane Morris of Early intercepted the ball, but Early was unable to convert it to points as Wall eventually moved further ahead.
Early Longhorns lose to the Wall Hawks with a final score of 32-21. The Longhorns play out of town next week in Clyde as they hit the road with a 0-2 record.
