Early high school (robotics) inventions team, the Early Innovators, competed at the state TCEA Robotics competition on Saturday, April 12.
Team members include Captain David Wiley, Bethany Kirk, Cassie Durden, and Grant Mitchell. The team placed 29th of 38 teams with a score of 67 out of a possible 100 points. This is quite an accomplishment for the team of 4 freshmen as it is their first attempt ever in the inventions category according to their coach Melissa Lewis who explained that the team also competed against teams from all other Texas schools which included 9th through 12th grade students.
Their invention was a clever, low-cost robotic water filter. The team was required to present their invention to two sets of judges and they were required to show documentation for each step in the engineering design process.
