Early High School recently announced Patrick Murphy as valedictorian and David Morales as salutatorian of the Class of 2016.

Patrick Joseph Murphy, pictured above left, is the son of Stephen and Maryann Murphy.  During his time at Early High School, Patrick was a member of Key Club International, Student Council, National Honor Society, Band, Robotics, Spanish Club, PALS, and UIL.

Academically, Patrick has amassed numerous awards including Top Algebra I Student, Top Algebra II Student, Top English I Student, Top World History Student, Top Pre-Calculus Student, and Top Spanish III Student.  Additionally, Patrick was named Key Club Member of the Year his freshmen, sophomore, and junior years.  Other honors include band beau and Leader of Leaders Award from Key Club International.

Patrick is very involved in community and church activities and volunteers his time in a variety of ways.  During his high school years, Patrick has served as a youth group leader at Early First Baptist Church and has volunteered at Vacation Bible School.  Additionally, Patrick has worked with Project S.W.E.A.T. repairing houses and has participated in the Ramp Project constructing ramps for the elderly and disabled.

Upon graduation, Patrick plans to attend Baylor University where he will major in both biology and religion.

David Morales, pictured above right, is the son of David and Peggy Morales.  While at Early High School, David has been involved in a number of clubs and organizations such Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Council.  David has also been an active participant in One Act Play, Concert Choir, UIL, and has been a member of the Future Problem Solving team as both a competitor and an evaluator.  Additionally, David has played basketball, baseball, and was the statistician and videographer for football.  David has also been a cast member in several of Early High School’s musicals including the starring role as Scrooge this past fall.

Academic achievements include top student in advanced biology, advanced world geography, advanced English II, advanced anatomy and physiology, AP English II, and AP U.S. History.  David also earned honors as the district and regional Literary Criticism Champion.  Additionally, David has been in the top ten in the state twice as a member of the Future Problem Solving team.  During his One Act Play career, David was named to the All-Star cast five times.

David volunteers time to his community through the Lyric Theater and as a Baseball Academy assistant.  David’s future plans include attending the University of Dallas where he will major in history and minor in literature.
