Early High School officials said that 18 of its football players were suspended from the team on Tuesday and will not play in Friday’s football game against the Bangs Dragons. Head Coach Brad Bowden said that the players were suspended because they did not meet expectations, but Early ISD officials would not confirm or deny rumors that the suspensions were due to substance use.
Chief David Mercer of the Early Police Department stated that there has not been any crime committed that would involve a police investigation.
“There hasn’t been any report to Early Police Department of any illegal drug use,” stated Mercer. “I support everything they’ve (EISD) done so far, as a parent and a police department.”
Mercer stated that Early ISD was investigating just what happened with the students.
“No matter what win and loss columns look like, Early can be proud of the coach and staff knowing that they will take care of the matter with the kids,” Mercer said.
School officials have not made official comments regarding the incident; however all parents have been briefed regarding the matter.
