The Early City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday regulating speed in the school zone and expanding the existing zone by 602 feet on highways 84/183 south.  City administrator Ken Thomas said this was primarily due in response to the increased traffic since Paradigm School moved to the area.

Police Chief David Mercer said there is a lot of traffic and there have been many accidents on the stretch of road.

The oath of office was also administered to new Early police officer, Stephanie Hail, by city secretary Brenda Croft and the law enforcement oath of honor was administered by Police Chief David Mercer.  Hail is moving to Early from Hamilton.

In other business, Wanda Ferguson, Director of the Early Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce, presented the 2010 audit reports for the EEDC and the early Early Chamber; fire chief Travis Eoff presented his fire department report and Mercer gave a report on racial profiling.

In the fire chief’s report, Eoff asked the council to reconsider business with a company called Revenue Rescue that allows emergency services personnel to file on the home and car insurance providers of those the fire department assists. Eoff said this would not affect anyone within the city of early.

“Our money situation is getting tight,” Eoff said.

Since this was only a discussion item, no decision was made. The council asked for more information and will review the request at a later date.
