According to Sheriff Bobby Grubbs, on 06/14/2010, Investigator Carlyle Gover received information from Sgt. Troy Carroll with the Brownwood Police Department. A concerned citizen had reported to Sgt. Carroll that they had received a call from a caller who inadvertently called the wrong number. The called left a message stating that they had certain illegal substances for sale.
Investigator Gover enlisted the help of Early Police Sgt. Shawn Dibrell to work in conjunction to identify and arrest this unknown person. Investigators called the number back and spoke to a man who they later identified as Britt Wade Stevens a 40 year old male. Acting as a potential customer, Investigators were offered the prescription drug Soma by Stevens. Stevens requested $80.00 for the drug.
The delivery of these prescription drugs was set up to occur at Stevens’ residence in the 500 Block of 7th in Brownwood. Investigators drove to this location where Stevens came out to meet them. Stevens had never met the supposed drug users and was a little apprehensive about come out to them, and he approached cautiously.
Once Stevens came close enough to conclude the transaction, Investigators took him into custody for the delivery. Stevens was found to be in possession of the prescription drugs and a small can of Mace, for protection. Stevens was arrested and placed in the Brown County Jail on charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance in a drug free zone.
Sheriff Grubbs commented that when all of the law enforcement agencies work together in this fashion, the drug dealers go to jail. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office said that it is committed to working with all other agencies in order to better serve all the citizen of Brown County and will assist or enlist the help of other agencies to accomplish this task.
