The driver of a Chevy pickup involved in a one-vehicle accident Monday night is still in ICU at Scott & White hospital in Temple as of late morning Wednesday.
Joel Adame, 20, of Brownwood was airlifted to Scott & White Monday night after his vehicle struck a tree in front of a home in the 2600 block of Elizabeth. The police report states that Adame was partially ejected from the driver’s side door of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The police report states that the driver was traveling south on Elizabeth at a high rate of speed, and that he began to turn right when the vehicle struck the tree. Officers at the scene of the accident estimate that the pickup was traveling around 60 mph based on the amount of damage to the vehicle.
Adame was transported to the Brownwood High School parking lot by Guardian EMS after the accident where he was then transferred to Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter for transport to the hospital.
