boyscoutstexastrailslogoAs many people are aware, The Boy Scouts of America, Texas Trails Council will honor J. Fred Perry and Calvin Fryar as the 2011 Distinguished Citizens.

The event will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011 with a Reception at 6:00 p.m. at the Lehnis Railroad Museum and a Dinner at 7:00 p.m. at the Brownwood Coliseum.

“Former Mayor of Brownwood Hon. Bert V. Massey II was planning on being our Master of Ceremonies but unfortunately he is ill and is undergoing surgery,” said Judge Steve Ellis, President of Texas Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America. “We regret Bert can’t be with us and we pray that he fully recovers and is back home shortly. He is a dear friend of the Boy Scouts of America and is himself a past recipient of this Distinguished Citizen Award.”

Although the news of Massey being unable to attend is a disappointment to many, organizers of the event found someone to help out.

“It is our pleasure to announce that Dr. Don Newbury, former President of Howard Payne University has graciously agreed to serve as our Master of Ceremonies for the dinner,” Ellis said.  “He is a marvelous speaker and a long time friend of J. Fred, Calvin, and their families.”

“So in the spirit of the Boy Scouts of America, ‘be prepared’ for a wonderful evening as we honor two fine men,” Ellis said.  “It will be fun.”
