StewartDrClintonDr. Stewart was born on November 7, 1927 in Copperas Cove, Texas to Albert Clyde and Marjorie Stewart. There were 11 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School as Valedictorian and holds four degrees from Baylor University – one Bachelor, two Master and Doctor of Education. He taught in public education within Vega, Valley Mills, Meridian and Coppell Independent School Districts. He also taught at Texarkana College, Howard Payne University and Sul Ross State University. He taught at HPU in the 1970’s and 1990’s and retired there as Dean of the School of Education and Professor Emeritus. He is a member of several honor societies, including Alpha Epsilon Delta, Beta Beta Beta, Alpha Chi and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. Stewart served three terms on the Board of Trustees of HPU.

He served in the Texas National Guard 143rd Infantry and rose to Master Sergeant. A strong believer in being involved, he was a Mason for 51 years, president of the Lions Club in Alpine and Meridian. He also served as a deacon in Meridian, Alpine and Brownwood.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
