Although many local schools are finishing up their spring break this week, Texas Department of Public Safety issued the following press release statewide:
Texas Highway Patrol troopers will be out in force during Spring Break looking for drivers who are intoxicated.
The increased patrols will run across the state from March 12 to March 20, in high-risk locations during the times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent. The patrols are funded through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation targeting impaired driving.
“Texas Highway Patrol troopers will be looking for intoxicated drivers. College and high school students should remember that the drinking age in Texas is 21—and anyone under that age can be arrested for DWI if there is any detectable amount of alcohol in their system. We don’t want to ruin anyone’s Spring Break, but you should know that drinking and driving will have serious consequences,” said Chief David G. Baker, assistant director for the Highway Patrol.
The remaining enforcement periods this year are Independence Day and Labor Day.
