Funeral services for Douglas “Tuffy” Howard, age 28, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas with Pastor Richard Ivy officiating.  Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.  He passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Douglas Owen Neil Howard was born on March 23, 1985 in San Antonio, Texas to Robert Neil and Joan Katherine Hunt Howard.  He was a 2003 graduate of Brownwood High School and a lifetime resident of Brownwood.  Mr. Howard participated in Operation Iraq Freedom and had served in the United States Marines for six years.  While in service he received the Iraq Campaign Metal with 1 Campaign Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Sharpshooter Badge and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.

Survivors include his father Robert Howard of Brownwood; grandmother Linda Howard of Brownwood; grandfather Norman Hunt of San Antonio; sisters Kathy Meyers of San Antonio, Megan Goins of Brownwood, Destiny Howard of Hobbs, New Mexico, Brianna Howard of Hobbs, New Mexico; brother Brian Carrier of Brownwood, Cole Miller of Ft. Hood; Aunt Jo Ann Carrier of Brownwood; uncles Douglas Ray Howard of Gustine, Dennis Hunt of San Antonio; nieces Shay Carrier, Hadley Carrier, Genrti Vrana; nephew Tobias Carrier; Godsons Colt Carrier and Dayton Vrana;  special cousins Tabatha Carrier, Courtney Vrana and Kayla Howard; special friend Josh Dawson.

Preceded in death by his mother Joan Katherine Howard, grandfather Rodney Howard, Grandmother Hunt and Aunt Jennifer Landas.
