Dorothy Marie Moore, 87, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014. Dorothy was born in Grosvenor, Texas; she was the daughter of Oscar Starnes and Ethel Mae Williams. While growing up she worked for Davis Floral in Brownwood. Dorothy attended the Grosvenor schools.
Dorothy then moved to Washington State, where she married and raised four children. She retired from the State of Washington treasury. Dorothy enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking, sewing, and most of all raising her family. After retiring she moved back to her native home Texas, in 1998, residing in Early.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ethel Starnes; brothers, Vernon and Jay Starnes; husbands, Ray Sutherland and Robert Moore; and son, Greg Peabody.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Gary Peabody of Olympia, Wash.; and daughters, Linda Bartley and her husband Larry of Brownwood, and Cathey Matz and her husband Charlie of Lacey, Wash. Dorothy is also survived by six grandchildren, Geia Roberts, Ryan Peabody, Wendi Weiks, Brooke Rushing, Alisha Newton and David Matz; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dorothy are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Davis Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave. in Brownwood, Texas.
