Dorothy Jewel Henry Harlow of Brownwood, Texas passed away peacefully Monday, January 23, 2017 in Celina, Texas after losing her long battle with Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Simpson officiating. Interment will follow in Locker Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2017, at Heartland Funeral Home. In addition, the family will have an informal visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
Dorothy Harlow was born July 16, 1927 in Art, Texas and was one of seven children born of the late William Livingston Henry and Edith Callaway Henry of Mason County. She attended school in Fly Gap, Texas. Dorothy married James “Dale” Harlow of Llano, Texas on April 7, 1945 and together they had six children and were married for 66 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker while living in Richland Springs, Texas with Dale and her growing family. She joined Dale with the operation of the family turkey business and eventually the family moved to Brownwood in 1970. Helping others was her calling, and she worked as an aide in several nursing homes and later as a nurse’s aide at Brownwood Regional Hospital where she was loved and respected. Dorothy was raised in the Methodist church.
As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Dorothy was a wonderful combination of grace and warmth, laughter and love, encouragement and kindness. She never met a stranger and welcomed all to her home.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents William and Edith Henry, brothers Ray and James Henry, sisters Elna Koelling, Angeline Nehr, Ruby Pinkerton and Velma Tuckness as well as her granddaughter Joy Harlow.
Dorothy is survived by her brother Nolan Henry, her beloved children, Bill Harlow and wife Ann of Richland Springs, Gary Harlow of Austin, James Harlow of Stephenville, Nancy Harlow of Mesquite, Amy Harlow Morrison and husband Chris of Frisco, Bryan Harlow and wife Michelle of Kaufman; grandchildren Dena Peters and husband Wes, Beth Seider and husband Ashley, Michael Harlow, Chad Harlow and wife Carrie, Jeremy Harlow and wife Marie, Jocelyn Keeney, Tanner Harlow, Chris Matthews, Regan Ricci, Makenna Morrison, Irelyn Morrison and Madeline Harlow; great-grandchildren Gatlin and Guthrie Peters, Carissa and Karah Seider, Penny and Bill Harlow, Brinkley and Kamden Harlow, Sierra, Branson and Carson Keeney, Cody, Dylan and Scarlett Matthews, Dax Walker and Braxtyn Ricci Burger.
