Dorothy Alma Townsend Stacks, age 85, of Swea City, Iowa and formerly of Brownwood died Saturday in Fairmont, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 18, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Clifford, Rev. Benny M. Allcorn, and John B. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
She was born November 25, 1925 in Brownwood the daughter of the late Andrew and Maude Atkins Townsend. She graduated from Brownwood schools and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was married to Darden V. “Pete” Stacks on May 13, 1945 in Brownwood. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1999. They moved from Brownwood and returned in 1959. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Texarkana to live with her daughter and husband and following her daughter’s death, she later to Iowa to live with her grandson and wife. She was a member of the Early First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her grandson – Darden O. Howard and wife Kristi of Swea City, Iowa
Her son-in-law – Paul G. Howard of Hooks, Texas
A brother-in-law – Jay Richardson of San Antonio
A host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Barbara Carol Howard, a grandson, Paul Darden Howard, and 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters.
