Born in Brownwood Texas on June 14,1933  Doris married her high school sweetheart Franklin Dawson Smith of Brownwood on August 5, 1951.  She is preceded in death by her husband  as well as her youngest son Denver Darrell Smith aka Buc.  Also preceding her in death are her parents Edgar D Gilbert and Bertha May Gilbert as well as her only brother Billy D Gilbert all from Brownwood.

She is survived by three children, Carolyn D Ellison (Ted) of Brackettville, TX, Franklin D Smith of Harrah, Oklahoma and Cindy L Burton (James) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her Grandchildren, Julie Creel (Ricky) of Brackettville, Texas, Frank Smith (Lydia) of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Brandi Elliot (Tony) of Harrah, Oklahoma, Casey Vernon (Tim) of Alabama, Ellisa Hudson (Perry) of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Vanessa Cahill (Tom) of Newalla, Oklahoma, Jered Smith of Saginaw, Texas and Jeremy Ellison of Brackettville, Texas plus 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Doris passed peacefully Thursday night May 10 from this world to her eternal home surrounded by her daughters, a son-in-law and a great grandson.

Though she was raised in Brownwood the last two years she has lived in Oklahoma with her daughter, Cindy.  Doris has lived in many communities of Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Louisiana throughout her adult life raising her children beside her husband as they traveled to new homes when her husband’s employment transferred them.

Doris was an avid Crocheter and Seamstress and in later life has spent countless hours crocheting caps for the elderly or those suffering from cancer.

She also always enjoyed the company of her favorite pet, her dogs!

Graveside services will Be Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11:00am at Greenleaf Cemetery with grandson, Jeremy Ellison officiating.  A Visitation/Viewing will be Saturday morning May 19 from 9:00am – 10:00am before the service at the gravesite.

Pallbearers are her grandsons Frank Smith and Jered Smith, great grandsons Zach Smith and Kristopher Creel and grandson-in-laws Ricky Creel and Perry Hudson.
