Funeral services for Doris Louise Gilder Dupriest will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Brownwood with Rev. Jimmie Mize officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM in the Round Grove Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Doris Louise (Gilder) Dupriest went to her heavenly home, Sunday evening, May 2, 2010. Doris was born July 29, 1924, to Rhoda (George) Gilder and George Herd Gilder in DeLeon, Texas. Round Grove Baptist Church, a little country church, played a large role in Doris’ spiritual development. She graduated from Comyn High School in 1941. Doris married David Claude Dupriest on December 29, 1943, at the First Baptist Church of DeLeon. After serving overseas twice, David and Doris traveled around the U.S. while he was enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII. They continued to move around while David was employed by Magnolia (Mobil Oil). Their only child, Susan (Dupriest) Mohon was born in Kermit, Texas in 1950.
They lived in Healdon, Oklahoma, McAllen, Portland, Victoria, Freer and finally retired in Brownwood in January, 1984. During 1985 and 1986, Doris and David volunteered at the Baptist Book Store while they lived in Jerusalem, Israel. During their married life, Doris and David were very active in all of their churches. Doris taught Sunday School and was very involved in the participation in , and the leadership of many mission organizations. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and two of her sisters, Jewel (Wall) Lee, and Jean Kirk. Survivors include her husband, David, daughter, Susan and husband Jim of Salado, Texas, two sisters, Maxcine Vaughn and Foncille (Barrett) Roling, of Brownwood, grandchildren, Michelle Cannon and husband Curtis, missionaries in Costa Rica, Brian and wife Tiffany of Spring, Texas, great-grandchildren, Coleman and Caroline Cannon of Costa Rico and Emily Mohan of Spring and several cousins.
