Doris Eversole Bentley lost her long fought battle with cancer June 11th, 2012, at home in Brownwood, Texas, surrounded by her family and her beloved dogs. Doris was born on October 20, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles R. Eversole and Mary Gardner Eversole.
Doris is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Russell Bentley; her children, Bonner Bentley of Austin, Margaret Bentley of Austin and Carter Bentley of Tyler; her grandchildren, Carson McHone, Fletcher McHone and Sophie Bentley; and Doris’ extended family of former students in China, Chang Yan, Shj Xiao Hui, Tao Jie, Wang Meng, and Zhang Deng Ce.
Besides her family, Doris’ two passions in life were her participation in Bible Studies and Christian organizations and her lifelong concern and care for abandoned dogs most recently involving her support of the Corrine T. Smith Animal Shelter in Brownwood. Doris was one of the founders of The Christian Women’s Club in South Texas and was Rio Grande Valley area representative for Bible Study Fellowship. Also, while living on South Padre Island, Doris served as Senior Warden at St. Andrew’s By the Sea Episcopal Church, the parish for South Padre Island and Port Isabel.
Doris’ sincere hope is that her family and friends will continue to support the Corrine T. Smith Animal Shelter in Brownwood.
A memorial service for Doris will be held at St. John’s Church Saturday, the 16th of June, 2012, at 5 pm. Following the service, Doris’ family will welcome friends at a reception at the Bentley home, #8 Short Crest in Brownwood.
Doris’ Family wishes to thank everyone for their loving and caring support during the last fifteen months.
