For friends and family of Dorine Oden, to know her was to love her.  The twinkle in her eye, her love for nature, the spring in her step along with her humorous comments were bound to make you smile.  Dorine’s love for the Lord Jesus Christ was also a sure find.  Dorine faithfully attended services at Brookesmith Baptist Church for over 60 years.  In the community, she worked as the secretary of Texas Farm Bureau in Brownwood for 27 years.  After her retirement she volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center, where she brightened the lives of everyone she touched.

She was born in Kossie, Texas, on October 1, 1914, to David Homer McMurray and Parrie Beatrice Hinson McMurray.  Her sister, Nadine, preceded her in death on October 8, 1928.  Dorine attended school at Hico then went on to John Tarleton College in Stephenville where she met her husband, Anson Joseph Oden.  They were married in Brownwood on December 11, 1937.  Anson was a lifelong rancher and farmer.  The Progressive Farmer’s Master Farm Family of the year for Brown County was awarded to the Oden family in 1950.  Dorine and Anson had two children, Bettye Sue and Joe.

She is survived by her son, Joe Oden and wife Marcia Ransom Oden; son-in-law, Delbert Connaway and wife Wanda Connaway;  three grandchildren: John David Connaway and wife Laura Estess Connaway; Trey Oden and wife Dawn Pisani Oden;  Cindy Oden;  four great-grandchildren:  Brian Connaway, Zachary Oden, Samuel Oden-Warren; Nicholas Oden.  She was preceded in death by daughter, Bettye Sue, in 1985, and by her husband, Anson, in 1992.

Dorine passed into Eternal Glory at 12:30 a.m. on September 19, 2010 at College Station Medical Center.  In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests memorial contributions be made to one’s own charity of choice.  The internment will be at Cedar Point Cemetery.

II Corinthians 5:8  To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.
