Despite the cool and rainy weather, National Make a Difference Day was still a success at Good Samaritan Ministries on Saturday.
Three hundred forty cans of chicken noodle soup and 80 boxes of saltine crackers were dropped off, as well as numerous clothing donations.
“We loved to see people getting out, even in the rain, to share their donations with us,” said Angelia Bostick, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Ministries. “It warmed our hearts!”In addition to the food donations, more than 20 volunteers came out to make a difference through their time and service.
Three whole pallets of unsorted food were inspected, cleaned, sorted and boxed ready to go out through the food pantry. Clothing was sorted and priced and plastic grocery bags were inspected and folded.
“We are always thrilled to see volunteers, but especially so when those volunteers show up on a cool, rainy Saturday morning with huge smiles ready to help wherever there is a need,” said Bostick. “We are so thankful to everyone who came out to volunteer and who came out in the rain to drop off donations.”
National Make a Difference Day is the largest single day of volunteering in the country and Good Samaritan Ministries used it as another catalyst to raise awareness for the hungry in the Brown County community.
October is National Hunger Awareness Month and in addition to this Saturday’s food and clothing drives, GSM has also been encouraging the community to collect specific items for the Christmas food boxes they distribute in December. Schools, churches, businesses and other organizations have been tasked with collecting certain items throughout the month of October.
