At 6:55 p.m. as polls were closing, 26 year old Brownwood resident Haley Henry finished voting for the first time. “I voted for Trump. I feel really good. I believe he’s what our country needs. He’s a business man,” said Henry.
Brown County Chairman of the Republican Party, Robert Porter, of Porter Insurance, was present in the election office as votes were being tallied.
“I feel encouraged. There’s been a huge voter turnout. I feel confident Brown County and Texas will do well for Trump,” Porter said.
And as final totals were revealed, Porter’s words rang true.
In Brown County, Trump received 12,010 votes, locking 85.68 percent of the vote compared to 11.56 percent for Clinton with 1,621 votes cast locally. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson received 253 votes in Brown County finishing with 1.8 percent, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein gained 0.46 percent with 65 votes cast.
Voter turnout in Brown County was high with 59% of the registered voters casting their ballots in this election.
For the United States Representative District 11 seat, Republican Mike Conaway received 93.21% of the vote against Libertarian candidate Nicholas Landholt, with 880 votes cast, totaling just 6.79% of the vote in Brown County.
Railroad Commissioner totals showed Republican Wayne Christian with a solid 83.8% over Democrat Grady Yarbrough at 11.81% and Libertarian Mark Miller with 3.13% and Green Party candidate Martina Salinas with 1.26% of the local votes.
For the Justice, Supreme Court, Place 3 seat, Republican Debra Lehrmann totaled 84.37% over Democrat Mike Westergren’s 11.30% and Libertarian Kathie Glass with 3% and Green Party’s Rodolfo Rivera Munoz with 1.33% of votes in Brown County.
Justice, Supreme Court Place 5 seat totals showed Republican Paul Green with 85.02% and Democrat Dori Contreras Garza with 11.52%, Libertarian Tom Oxford with 2.63% and Green Party’s Charles E. Waterbury with .84% of the local votes cast.
For the Justice, Supreme Court, Place 9 seat Republican Eva Guzman ended with 84.06% over Democrat Savannah Robinson with 11.78%, Libertarian candidate Don Fulton with 2.89% and Green Party candidate Jim Chisholm with 1.27% of votes in Brown County.
Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 2 results showed Republican Mary Lou Keel with 84.44% and Democrat Lawrence “Larry” Meyers with 11.82%, Libertarian Mark Ash with 2.88% and Green Party candidate Adam King Blackwell Reposa with .87% of the local votes.
Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 5 results showed Republican Scott Walker with 85.05% over Democrat Betsy Johnson with 11.77%, Libertarian William Bryan Strange, III with 2.22% and Green Party candidate Judith Sanders-Castro with .96% of votes in Brown County.
Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place 6 results ended with Republican Michael E. Keasler showing 84.97% over Democrat Robert Burns with 11.92% and Libertarian Mark. W. Bennet with 3.11% of Brown County votes.
State Board of Education, District 14 seat went to Republican Sue Melton-Malone, who ran uncontested.
State Senator, District 24 went to Republican Dawn Buckingham with 86.63% of Brown County votes against Democrat Virginia “Jennie Lou” Leeder with only 13.37% of the local vote.
State Representative, District 60’s seat went to Republican Mike Lang who ran uncontested.
Justice, 11th Court of Appeals District, Place 3 went to Republican John Bailey who ran uncontested.
In Brown County, Judge for the 35th Judicial District remains Republican Steve Ellis, who ran uncontested.
Brown County also voted for the approval of alcohol sales in Blanket. Totals showed 80.74% voting for the local option election and 19.26% against.
