Private Family Services for Donald Ray “Don” Howey, age 83, of Kerrville will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
Don passed away peacefully Sunday, December 20, 2015, in Kerrville. Don was born on September 6, 1932, to Humphrey Pete and Edith (Allen) Howey in Parsons, Kansas.
Don served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After the Navy, he attended Kansas State Teachers College; earning his Masters in Education. Don coached basketball in Kansas.
He married Alene Gulliford September 7, 1957, in Bronaugh, Missouri. Upon Alene’s passing in 1992, he remarried on June 18, 1995 to Mauriene Dickens.
In 1980, he and his family moved to Brownwood. He opened the Kettle, which is now Skillets, along with several more restaurants since then. Don enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with his family.Don is survived by his wife, Mauriene Howey; children, Lisa May and husband John of Early, Tom Howey and wife Donna of Brownwood, Todd Howey and wife Jane’t of San Antonio, Doug Howey and wife Ann of Lubbock, Jay Dickens and wife Dana of San Angelo, Jon Dickens and wife Mary of Dallas, and Joel Dickens and wife Hollie of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Zach May and wife Adriane, Kelcey Johnson and husband Bart, Logan May, Keith Howey and wife Texanna, Lauren Turner and husband Neil, Jarrod Howey and fiancé Katie Hartman, Cooper Howey, Colt Howey and wife Danielle, Hunter Howey, Preston Howey, Haley Howey, Mackenzie Howey, Jason Dickens, Kennen Dickens, Luke Dickens and wife Cassandra, Joshua Dickens and wife Kassi, David Dickens and wife Lindlee, Charis Dickens, Daniel Dickens, Paul Dickens, Colt Dickens, Abigail Dickens, and Annaleigh Dickens; great-grandchildren, Emory, Sam, and Grant May, Hazel Turner, and Brylan, Kash, and Audrey Dickens. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Humphrey and Edith Howey; and his first wife, Alene Gulliford Howey.
