Donald Jack Slater Jr., age 73, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020, at a Senior Care of Brownwood.

Celebration of Life for Don will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday 18, 2020, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel; visitation will be held prior to services from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Donald was born on April 26, 1946, in Abilene to Donald Jack Slater Sr. and Alyene Hensley Arthur. He was raised by adopted parents Neely and Allie B. Brunson (his aunt and uncle). He attended Abilene public schools and graduated from Abilene Cooper High School in 1964. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brownwood.

Don married Sheila Jeffcoat on August 6, 1966, in Santa Anna, at the First United Methodist Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 6, 2016.

Don worked for Buddies Grocery Store, Sears Tire Center and Hi-Way Auto from where he retired. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge, where he served as Chancellor Commander and also held many offices.

Don’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, and hanging out at the camp ranch. He also loved going to the hunting camp with his hunting buddies.

Donald is survived by his wife, Sheila Slater of Brownwood; daughter, Melissa Slater of Brownwood; and beloved pet, Izzy. He is also survived by his sisters, Iwanda Boyd and husband Roger of Big Spring, Sue Phillips of Farmerville, LA, Amy Chisholm of Oak Harbor, WA, Carolyn Crane and husband Bill of Boise, ID, Sybil Taylor of Marion, LA, Marsha Collins of Marion, LA, and Liz Reppond of Farmerville, LA; brothers, Johnny Brunson and wife Patsy of San Angelo, Sydney “Sam” Slater of Marion, LA, and Thomas Reppond of Rocky Branch, LA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; specials friends, Gladys, Wendell, Mike, David, Allen, Ross, Cory, John, Scott, and Brandon.

He was preceded in death by his adopted parents Neely and Allie B Brunson; father, Donald Jack Slater Sr. and step-mother Delsie P. Slater, mother, Alyene Hensley Arthur; father and mother-in-law, Felix and Dorothy Jeffcoat; sisters, Sandra Elizabeth Buddin, Bobby Joe Parvin, LaVonda Sue Brunson, and Margie Fay Kropp; and brother, Charles “Tunkey” Brunson.
