Brownwood Fire Department responded to a fire at Southside Village Apartments, in the 2800 block of Southside Drive, after a resident of the complex reported seeing smoke coming from a neighboring unit.

The fire was called in at approximately 7:40pm Wednesday with multiple fire units responding.  Fire crews arrived to find an exterior area of complex smoking.  Once located, the small fire was extinguished and firefighters checked to make sure there was no extension of the fire.  Firefighters used a chain saw on the exterior of the building while working the fire.

According to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston, the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette resulting in only minor exterior damage.
