BarryDericksonThe Howard Payne football program today announced the hiring of Barry Derickson as the Yellow Jackets new offensive line coach.

Barry Derickson comes to Howard Payne with experience as a running backs and tight ends coach at Bemidji State University and tight ends and offensive line assistant at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

“Coach Derickson brings some fresh experience to the Howard Payne program,” said HPU head coach Roger Geise. “We are happy to have someone like him joining our program.”

Barry Derickson was currently working as a football graduate assistant at Bemidji State University and last season was the graduate assistant for basketball operations at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.

“I am very excited about joining the Howard Payne staff,” said Barry Derickson. “I can’t wait to get started and help to bring a championship type mentality to the Yellow Jacket football program.”

He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the assistant offensive line coach and then as the tight ends and backs coach at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. There he was a part of a staff that led Wisconsin Oshkosh to a 13-1 overall record in 2012. That season they won the WIAC championship knocking off national power Wisconsin Whitewater and reached the NCAA III national semi-finals.

As a three-year letterman at Wisconsin Oshkosh, he started three seasons at left tackle before an injury cut his fourth season short.

He graduated from Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2011 with a bachelor of science in Political Science and should complete his masters of education from Angelo State University in the spring of 2015.

Barry will officially begin his duties at Howard Payne on July 1st.
