With the new Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center now open and operational, the city began demolition of the old Camp Bowie swimming pool located on Milam Drive near Gordon Wood Stadium.
The location of the old pool will be used for additional parking as well as a new entryway into the stadium. A small building at the old pool will remain intact to be used as a storage facility.
The old pool was originally built as part of Camp Bowie in the 1940’s.
The new Aquatic Center has seen increased use compared to the original Camp Bowie pool. Average daily attendance at the new facility is around 500 people. The old pool saw use by approximately 125 to 150 people per day.
