Brownwood News – The Deflatrios defeated the Dominators 40-20 in the 2017 6th Grade Flag Football Super Bowl game held October 26, at Gordon Wood Stadium. Coggin Intermediate School students, parents, faculty and staff filled the stands for the event which also featured the 5th and 6th grade cheerleaders, a performance of the National Anthem by the 6th grade choir, and a halftime show featuring the BHS Band.

The Deflatriots won the toss and choose to kick to the Dominators. The Dominators’ Isaac Hall ran the kick return all the way for a touchdown making the score 6-0. The extra point was no good. The Deflatriots got the ball back. Quinten McCarty hooked up with Caden Carnes on a long pass but it was called back because he crossed the line of scrimmage before passing. Quinten McCarty then completed a pass to Isaac Hall for a first down. Cristyn Villarreal caught a pass from McCarty for a big gain, and Sir Jones caught another for a first down. The Dominators handed off to Colbin Burleson for a touchdown with the 2-point conversion no good, leaving the score Dominators 12, Deflatriots 0.
The Deflatriots began marching down the field with a couple of completed passes to Jake Jetton and Hudson Reagan. The Deflatriots scored their first touchdown with a pass to Justin Valdez. The 2-point conversion was good bringing the score to Dominators 12, Deflatriots 8. The Dominators had a quick turnover and the Deflatriots capitalized with a throw to Justin Valdez for a second touchdown. With the 2-point conversion good, the score moved to Deflatriots 16, Dominators 12. Colbin Burleson handed off to Isaac Hall for a long run, but was stopped before he could score just before the end of the half.
To start the second half the Dominators kicked the ball out of bounds. After the re-kick, the Deflatriots came up short and didn’t score after a couple of completions to Hudson Reagan and Junior Martinez, resulting in a turnover on downs. Out of nowhere, Cristyn Villarreal completed a long run on a reverse putting the Dominators in great position. Caden Carnes caught a first down, but the Dominators caught a bad break when McCarty was picked off by Junior Martinez. The very next play Junior Martinez took it to the house for a Deflatriot Touchdown. With Valdez on the 2-point conversion, the Deflatriots were up 24-12.
Cristyn Villarreal received the following kickoff for a short gain, and Isaac Hall had a good run for a first down. The Dominators’ McCarty connected with Cristyn Villarreal for a touchdown pass. Isaac Hall made the 2-point conversion making the score Deflatriots 24, Dominators 20.
Quinten McCarty attempted the on-side kick and Hudson Reagan recovered for the Deflatriots. The Deflatriots did not take long to score once again after a few completed passes to Hudson Reagan and Justin Valdez. With a touchdown from Davis Le, and a good 2-point conversion, the Deflatriots seemed unstoppable bringing the score to 32-20.
Junior Martinez kicked an on-side kick and the Deflatriots recovered. Hudson Reagan connected to Jake Jetton for a first down. Daylan McGee then completed a great run for a touchdown. With another 2-point conversion good, the final score was Deflatriots 40, Dominators 20. Isaac had a great kickoff return but it was just too late for the Dominators making the Deflatriots the 2017 6th Grade Flag Football Super Bowl Champions.
