It is officially Spring-time. The days are longer, the temperatures are warmer, the flowers are blooming and, perhaps, the urge to clean out those closets and cabinets is making you a bit restless.
Rest assured, there is a solution! Decrease, declutter and donate!
Have more clothes than you know what to do with? Decreasing the overflow in your closet could make life easier. Of course, it could also make room for a shopping trip…
“Now is a great time to go through last year’s warm-weather clothes and donate those that no longer fit or to just make room in your closet,” said Angelia Bostick, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Ministries. “Or if the need to declutter your home is overwhelming, please remember that we also accept household items like dishes, glasses, bake ware, knick knacks, bedding and small household appliances.”
The Good Samaritan Ministries Clothing Store is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. Items may be donated during regular business hours at the Anderson Street side of the building. Just pull up to the side door and someone will be out to unload for you.
In addition to providing a way to donate gently used items, the GSM Clothing Store is also a great find for crafters and frugal, thrifty shoppers.
“While we like to offer quality items to our families who would like nice clothing and household items at an extremely inexpensive price, the store offers a wealth of items for the collector, crafter or frugal shopper,” Bostick said. “It’s amazing the number of antique, unique and interesting items we sometimes get in the store.”
For those who are into crafting and repurposing, the GSM Clothing Store offers a plethora of merchandise to choose from. Turn an old pair of jeans into a purse, an apron, a skirt or a quilt. Turn a leather vest or jacket into a purse or clutch. Use excess material from a shirt, dress or skirt for another creative sewing project. There is no limit to the possibilities.
Or, for an avid reader, browse our shelves for classic, hard bound literary novels or children’s classics. Find an old Bible or hymnbook with personal notes written in the margins.
Maybe you’re looking for a hand-crocheted afghan or doilies that remind you of a time gone by? Or maybe mismatched, eclectic dishes and kitchenware is what you collect?
Bring your donations by the Anderson street side drop off during our regular business hours, then circle around front and peek at the store. You might be pleasantly surprised that you did!
