Debra Lynn Rhoades Kirkland, 60, of Brownwood, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2016. A memorial service, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 19, 2016, at the Early First Baptist Church with Brother David Barnum officiating. Debra was born in the hearts of W. J. and Ann Rhoades on March 21, 1955, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She attended school in Brownwood and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1973. After graduation, Debra moved to Nurnberg, Germany to join her husband, Preston Roberson. After 2 years in Germany, she and her family returned to the United States. After living in Midland and Austin, Texas, in 1983 Debra and her family settled back in Brownwood.
In 1991, she married Terry Kirkland and moved to Grosvenor, Texas, where she lived the remainder of her life.Debra was employed 25 years with the Brownwood Independent School District where she served as an administrative assistant. Debra was a proud member of the Grosvenor Baptist Church.
Those that knew Debra personally, knows she lived life to the fullest and always wore a smile. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and helping others in need.
Debra is survived by her husband of 24 years, Terry Kirkland of Grosvenor, Texas; daughter, Kimberly Harvey and husband Bryan of Brownwood, Texas; son, Scotty Roberson of Hico, Texas; daughter, Lana Pummell and husband Ben of Odessa, Texas; and grandchildren, Tracer, Trevor, Trenton, and Trinidy Roberson, all of Hico; Kinnison, Braylon, and Kasidee “Peanut” Harvey, all of Brownwood; and Nickola Pummell of Odessa, and a grandson “to be.”
In addition, Debra is survived by her sister, Vicki George and husband Gary of Brownwood; special nephew, Jason George and wife Tiffany of Hood River, Oregon; great niece, June George of Hood River, Oregon; father-in-law, Don Kirkland of Grosvenor; and special sisters Betty Jarman, Sandra Poynor, Linda Sparks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Debra was preceded in death by parents, W.J. and Ann Rhoades, grandparents, and mother-in-law, Shirley Kirkland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Grosvenor Baptist Church Building Fund, the Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter in Brownwood, or their favorite charity.
