Funeral Service for Dean will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020, at High Mesa Cowboy Church with Seth Pitman officiating; burial will follow at Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Ernie Dean Kilburn was born on October 3, 1961, in Brownwood to Lester and Ruby Kilburn, and left this world on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. He made the most of his time every day.
He graduated from Brownwood High School, where he was very active in the band. He worked at his dad’s filling station growing up. He then enlisted in the National Guard in 1980. Dean married Roberta Jones in 1984, she passed in 1989. In late 1994, he married LaFreda Reasoner.
Dean was never afraid of work, holding many different jobs through the years, until his first taste of law enforcement when he became a jailer for Brown County. From there he became a dispatcher for the City of Brownwood, always finding a new adventure he became an EMT and then a Paramedic, from there the Volunteer Fire Department for the City of Bangs. Finally, working as a dispatcher he went to school full time to become a police officer. He became a police officer for the City of Brownwood in 2000, in 2005 he became a police officer for the City of Coleman, he remained there until 2007 when he became the Marshal for the City of Brownwood. Dean remained the Marshal until mid-2018 when he became a Code Enforcement Officer until his death Wednesday.
As an avid fan of Ted Nugent, he loved bow hunting and classic rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Scotty Purcell; grandson, Noah LeMond; first wife, Robbie Kilburn; and half-sister, Addie Kilburn.
Dean is survived by his wife LaFreda Kilburn; children, Eric Kilburn and wife Bekah, Tiffany LeMond and husband Everett, Audrey Wallace and husband Steve Dow; grandchildren, Rose Wallace and Grayce Wallace; and great-granddaughter, Avery Carter; siblings, Mary Sue Kilburn, John Stoker and wife Jean, Alan Kilburn and wife Rhonda, Benny Kilburn and wife Connie; and sister-in-law, Pam Scott. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
