Funeral services for David Lee Sheffield, age 90, of Brownwood will be
held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 12 , 2010 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel
with James Gibson officiating, interment to follow in Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born April 26, 1920 in Concho, Texas to James and Fanny (Conner) Sheffield.
David married Mary Marjorie Cardwell on May 21, 1948 in Ballinger, Tx. He worked for Thompson’s Surplus for 34 years, was a member of the Concho Baptist Church and the VFW. David served in the United States Army, C.D.C 102 Med-Regt. overseas for a year and a half, and as a Pharmistic-T5 in Fort Ordo-California under Major Giltner. He was sitting in his barracks at San Antonio when the announcing of the Pearl Harbor bombing came, from there he was sent to Camp Barkeley in Abilene, then to Hawaii for training, and back to Fort Ordd to dispensary. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars for periods covering 7, April 1942 to 14, May 1943.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Marjorie Sheffield of Brownwood, a son, Philip Sheffield and wife Janice G. of Brownwood; daughters, Shirlie Rust and husband Johnny E. of Rhome, Tx, and JoAnn Marshall and husband Richard A. of Carlsbad, N.M.; 11 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Avis Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Curtis Sheffield in 1961; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
