tx_trashoff_2013Keep Brownwood Beautiful and the City of Brownwood will host two free residential clean ups this year.  The first clean up will be part of the Texas Trash Off which is scheduled for Saturday, April 6th.  The second clean up will be Saturday, October 5th.  The hours for both clean ups will be 8 AM to 2 PM under the Bill Monroe (Austin Ave.) Overpass at Avenue A and Brady Avenue.

KBB and the City of Brownwood hold these clean ups to discourage illegal dumping and to encourage code compliance.

Guidelines for the clean ups are as follows:

An in-town site for cars, vans, and pickups only will be located under the Austin Avenue Overpass at Avenue A & Brady.  Those with trailer loads must go to landfill where there will be no charge between the hours of 8 am and 2pm.  Loads must be covered as this is a state of Texas law.

Acceptable clean up items include:  brush, yard debris, household garbage, latex & spray paint (limit 10 gallons), metal, refrigerators (must be free of food), stoves, ovens, a/c units, anti-freeze, car batteries, passenger car tires (max 8 per household, must be 20 inches or less.  Tires will not be accepted from tire dealers or tire resellers.  No tractor or 18 wheeler tires), used motor oil (limit 5 gallons per state law)

Electronic items accepted during the cleanup are: computers, monitors, printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, cameras, batteries VCR/VCD/DVD players, and MP3players. If it has an electrical cord, we’ll probably take it.  Recycling will be collected at the Community Plaza across the street from underpass.

NO HAZARDOUS WASTE will be accepted at these clean ups.

Groups looking for a community project and interested in helping are encouraged to call KBB at 641-0533.  KBB will have a number of sites in Brownwood selected for litter pickups.  Trash bags, bag holders, tongs gloves and trash hauling will be provided for your group.  For information about what is being collected, call the city at 641-8832.
