Darrell G. Madole, loving wife, cherished mother and faithful Christian warrior, passed from this life to be with her Lord on July, 5, 2013 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
“She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31: 27-30.
Darrell G. (Stevens) Madole was born November 7, 1924 in Brownwood, Texas to Joe Z. and Veda Stevens. She attended Brownwood public schools and graduated from Brownwood High School. While working at Woolworth in 1945, she met and married a soldier stationed at Camp Bowie named Garland A. Madole. That was the beginning of a 60 year marriage that ended with Garland’s death in 2005.
Darrell was employed at Rio Grande Insurance Company and later at Weakly Watson, where she worked for over 20 years. She liked books, gospel music and ice cream, but she loved her God, her family and her church. She was a faithful prayer warrior whose beliefs led her to serve in various capacities at Early First Baptist Church for over 50 years. In addition, she volunteered at the Good Samaritan for over 10 years, until her health prevented her from continuing. Her faith and compassion were felt by everyone who came in contact with her.
Darrell was no stranger to adversity. She suffered through many health problems, but her faith never wavered. She read her Bible every day, and prayed every night.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Garland Madole, and two infant sons. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Veda Stevens and sisters Juanita Whitaker and Nelda Meek.
She is survived by, and her memory is cherished by, her daughter Benita Mashburn and husband Barry of Mullin and her son Keith Madole of Brownwood. In addition, her two grandchildren, Kim Morganthaler and husband Bill of Crosby, Texas, and Kevin Mashburn and wife Shannon of Amarillo. And her four great-grandchildren, Regan, Bryndalyn, Rebecca, and Brilynne. Also surviving her are her sister Laverne Ransbottom, nephew Donnie Ransbottom and wife Debbie, and neice Michelle Anderson and husband Robert, all of Edmond, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 9, 2013 at Early First Baptist Church with Bro. Eddie Ailshie officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home. Interment will be at Greenleaf Cemetery the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Good Samaritan of Brownwood.
