Joe Dan Finnigan, 81 of Brownwood, died at his home on Saturday, April 19 after a lengthy illness. Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Interment will follow at Jordon Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday April 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Heartland Chapel.
Joe Dan was born to Albert and Bessie RascoFinnigan on March 1, 1933 in Fife, Texas. He served his country four years in the United States Army, and was employed at 3M in 1965, retiring as a supervisor in the glass bead department after 30 years. He married Tressa Cowan February 21, 1981.
To some he was known as Joe Dan, to others Danny, but to his family, he was just “Pa Dan.” His passion was farming and raising cattle, who he would usually name after family members. He was a hardworking man who could work circles around the young men, and at the end of the day, he enjoyed sitting at his shop on the hill watching over all his labor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 33 years Tressa; children Derick and Karen Finnigan of Lake Brownwood, Doug and Lisa Finnigan of Brownwood, Sterling and Mary Hill of Blanket, Brian and Tammy Mackey of Brookesmith, and Rhonda Hill of Brownwood; one sister Billie Turnell of Liberty Hill; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Regnold, Jack and Jerry; Sisters Winona Cowan, Edna Williamson and Kathyrn Cox; one Grandson Justin Hill and a great grandson Sterling James Harris.
The family would like to give a very heartfelt thanks to Leonard and Toni Hill for their great friendship. The family would also like to thank IntegraCare Home Health and Girling Hospice for all their love and care, Guardian and Heart of Texas EMS services.
