CummingsDaLinAlora DaLin Cummings, 48, of Brownwood, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 7, after a four-year battle with cancer.  She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and other loved ones. She fought valiantly, never complaining, always striving to meet the challenges that faced her daily both at work and at home.  Her faith was strong and her smile was contagious.  A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Calvary Baptist Church, Brownwood, Texas, with Dr. Don Fawcett, Dr. Art Allen, Rev. Dan Connally and Fr. Ted Tsitsilianos officiating.  Burial will follow in Jordan Springs Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home.

DaLin was born in Brownwood on February 18, 1968, the daughter of Edmond and Linda Coppic Wheeless.  She attended school in Brownwood. DaLin loved music and enjoyed singing in the Choir. She especially loved performing in the musicals and had fond memories of playing Aunt Eller in the musical, Oklahoma. DaLin was an athlete participating in volleyball and track at school and pitching for her softball team in the summer.  She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1986 and began her studies at Howard Payne University where she graduated with honors in 1990, receiving a degree in Education.

DaLin taught elementary school in Oglesby, Whitney and Waco, Texas.  She and her family lived in Boston for three years and Roslyn Heights, NY for three years before returning to Brownwood, Texas where she began work for King Wellness Center.

DaLin was married to Michael Cummings on February 11, 2006, in Brownwood. They soon moved to Wylie, Texas where she taught elementary school for two years.

After returning to Brownwood In 2008, DaLin became assistant to the librarian at Brownwood High School.  While at the High School, she began work on her Master’s Degree in Library Science at Texas Women’s University. In 2011 she became the Librarian/Media Specialist at Brownwood Middle School, her dream job.  DaLin was an avid reader and being surrounded by books which she could share with young people was an adventure for her.

In May of 2015, DaLin was, selected as the Brownwood Middle School Point of Life recipient, an honor which she truly cherished.

In 2012, DaLin received the devastating news that she had cancer and began her long journey.  She had her first surgery, came home, picked up her computer and announced that she needed to get busy finishing her degree which she completed, graduating from TWU in December of 2012.

Left to cherish  her memory are her husband, Michael Cummings of Brownwood, her parents, Edmond and Linda Wheeless of Brownwood,  sons, Vincent Morrow,  Alexander Morrow and Kyle Cummings of Brownwood, and a daughter, Audrey Cummings of Denton. She is also survived by her brother, Dana Wheeless and wife Josalyn and their children, Trina and Carter of Brownwood, two brothers-in-law, Tom Cummings of Wichita, Kansas and Bill Cummings and wife Amy of Topeka, Kansas, two sisters-in-law, Jeannie Gomez and husband Gary of Littlerock, California, and Mary Rinehart and husband Ricky of Kansas City, Kansas. Surviving her also are her aunts,  Daphine Baten of Dothan, Alabama, Dueda Coppic of San Angelo, Texas,  Pam Wheeless of Lubbock, Texas and Charliece Wheeless of Shore Acres, Texas. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, extended family and a host of friends.  DaLin was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jesse and Beulah Coppic of Brownwood and B.H. and Gladys Wheeless of Crosbyton, uncles, Richard Wheeless, Gaylon Wheeless, Leroy Coppic, Raymond Coppic, and G.O. Baten and aunts, Dolores Coppic, Patricia Coppic and Elwanda Coppic.

DaLin loved life and was thankful for every day that God granted her.  She loved her family, her friends, and above all, her Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was intelligent, kind, funny, a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. She will be missed but we will hold her memory in our hearts for a lifetime.
