Local Cub Scouts from Brownwood got a chance of a lifetime to live aboard a real battleship and to visit the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi on the weekend of June 11-12, 2011.
The Brownwood Pack 14 Cub Scouts participated in a special visit and were able to spend a night on the USS Lexington as part of the Lexington’s Live Aboard Program. The Cubs (and parents) had a great time exploring the ship, participating in ceremonies, getting to hear ghost stories late at night in a dark secluded part of the ship, and getting to sleep in navy racks that night.
The next day Cub Scouts and parents ate on the ship and participated in closing ceremonies then left to spend the day at the Texas State Aquarium. Only one of the boys (Mason) had ever previously had the opportunity to visit the state aquarium. We all learned a lot about the Gulf and the waterways of Texas.
Below are pictures of the Cub Scouts at the Texas State Aquarium.
The Live Aboard program is available to all organized youth groups: Church, School, YMCA/YWCA, BSA, GSA, etc. For more information about this program,
