A math teacher employed with the Cross Plains Independent School District was booked into the Brown County Jail on Wednesday on a warrant issued after she was indicted by a Brown County Grand Jury in April on the charge of Improper Relationship with a Student.
46-year-old Kimberly O’Briant of Cross Plains, formerly of Lake Brownwood, was arrested for an improper relationship with a then 15-year-old male who was a student at Cross Plains High School, according to Brown County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Scott Bird. Bird said that interviews with the victim, other teachers, students and O’Briant determined that the relationship started through inappropriate texting. Because the investigation is still ongoing, no other details of the relationship were released.
Bird stated that the investigation began after allegations of the relationship were made against O’Briant in late 2010. Brown County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the school at that time regarding the alleged relationship; however, the investigation has lasted for several months and is still ongoing, said Bird. As the allegations surfaced, Cross Plains ISD placed O’Briant on paid administrative leave, according to sheriff’s officials.
Because the warrant for O’Briant was issued during the time that the Operation Baker’s Dozen drug round up was being performed on Wednesday, O’Briant was included in the round up. Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested O’Briant at her residence in Cross Plains.
O’Briant was released on a $20,000 bond Wednesday, the day of her arrest.
