The Early City Council hired Brenda Croft as the new city secretary at last night’s regular meeting. Croft will replace outgoing secretary Deloris Walker who has served in the position since 1982.
Details are still being worked out for an official start date for Croft.
In other business, the council approved replacing an irrigation water line on Canal Street that was destroyed when the street was widened pending the property owner obtaining the necessary easements.
The council also approved appointing Mr. Wade Kinnon to represent the City of Early on the Brown County Appraisal District board. City administrator Ken Thomas said Kinnon will represent both the city and Early ISD on the board.
The council heard from Suzanne Owens, chairperson of the Early Beautification Commission who reported on projects in the works for the organization including landscaping at city hall, a new website and the Christmas lighting contest where two $250 prizes will be awarded.
A special plaque was presented to Benny Dodd for 23 years of service on the planning and zoning committee.
