Early Police Chief David Mercer reported that EPD arrested Rachael Ann Anderson (age 28) and Shernon Madison Coleman (age 45) Thursday on charges of Manufacture or Delivery of Substance in Penalty Group 1 > 4 grams and
In addition, Coleman was arrested for two outstanding City of Brownwood warrants and Tampering with Evidence and the additional charge of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer was added to Anderson’s charges. According to the report, on Thursday, Dec. 30th Early Police Department Officers Sgt. Shawn Dibrell, Johnny Brown, and Steven Means initiated a traffic stop in the 1000 block of CC Woodson after spotting a vehicle belonging to Shernon Coleman. The Officers had prior knowledge that Coleman would be in the vehicle and that he had outstanding warrants from the City of Brownwood.
After the Officers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle continued traveling while the driver, identified as Rachael Anderson made several quick movements in the front seat area before finally pulling over the report states. While officers were near the vehicle, a strong odor of burnt Marijuana could be detected. Officers and soon discovered that Coleman had eaten what Marijuana was left after finding partially chewed Marijuana still in his mouth according to police reports.
After further investigation, the officers discovered that Anderson had stuffed a large amount of crack cocaine down the front of her pants in an attempt to conceal it while eluding officers the report states. The crack cocaine was recovered at the Brown County Jail. Brownwood Police Officers Anna Sturgeon and Brandon Arnold assisted in the investigation and took a vital role in finding the drugs.
“Continued cooperation with the Brownwood Police Department and the Early Police Department led to the successful arrests of Anderson and Coleman and the seizure of the Crack Cocaine that was intended for distribution throughout Brown County,” stated Mercer.
Shernon Coleman is currently being held at the Brown County Jail with bonds totaling $125,000 while Rachael Anderson is being held on bonds totaling $21,000.
In a separate and unrelated incident, also taking place on Thursday, Mercer reported that EPD arrested Randall Dale Ward Jr. (age 42) and Amos “AJ” Griffin Grice (age 54), both of Brownwood, on charges of Manufacture or Delivery of Substance in Penalty Group 1 > 1 gram and < 4 grams. In addition, Ward was arrested for the offense of Evading Arrest Using a Motor Vehicle while Grice was charged with additional offense of Tampering with Evidence.
According to the report, EPD officers Sgt. Shawn Dibrell and Johnny Brown received information that Ward and Grice were transporting a substantial amount of Crack Cocaine from the Austin area to Brown County for distribution. After this information was learned, Sgt. Dibrell and Officer Brown coordinated their investigation with the Brownwood Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
Later that night, Officers Dibrell and Brown spotted the vehicle driven by Ward and began to follow it. At this time, Officer John Mills was contacted to assist with a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once Officer Mills activated his overhead emergency lights to initiate the traffic stop, the suspect vehicle quickly sped off leading officers on a short chase into south Brownwood the report states. Ward and Grice were quickly detained by Officer Mills, Brownwood officers Sgt. Mike Sheedy, Officer Danny Hutchins and Sheriff’s Deputy Wes Copeland.
The report states that Ward and Grice were both interviewed and admitted to officers that the reason they did not stop was because they had been traveling from Austin, TX after purchasing crack cocaine. Grice stated that he was going trade some of the Crack for sexual favors according to police reports.
After checking the pursuit path, Sgt. Dibrell located a glass crack pipe which Grice had thrown out of the window during the chase. A quantity of crack cocaine was located in Grice’s pants pocket and also inside a hidden compartment of the leather jacket worn by Grice the report states.
“The conjunctive investigation with the Brownwood Police Department, The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Early Police Department led to the successful arrests of Randall Ward Jr. and Amos “AJ” Grice and the seizure of the Crack Cocaine that was intended for distribution throughout Brown County,” stated Mercer.
Amos “AJ” Grice and Randall Ward Jr. are each currently being held at the Brown County Jail with bonds totaling $115,000 each.
