JrRollerDerby

The Cowboy Capital Rollergirls are thrilled to announce the official formation of their Junior Roller Derby program.  Girls and boys ages 7-17 years are being recruited to start playing roller derby beginning Sunday, September 15th.

CCJRD’s mission is to nurture self-confidence in young adults by developing teamwork and athletic ability while encouraging individuality within a culture of discipline, family, and stewardship though the competitive sport of roller derby.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the program:

How often will we practice? Sunday’s from 5:30-6:30pm, generally every week. The junior’s “season” will run in conjunction with the women’s program! Juniors are encouraged to arrive at 5:15pm, no earlier.

Where are practices going to be held? Stephenville Roller Rink, 310 FM 2303 (Pidgeon Rd), Stephenville, Texas 76401

How much will it cost? A monthly fee of $10 will be required the first week of every month during the season.

What gear is my junior required to have in order to skate? All skaters are required to have a proper helmet, mouth guard, wrist guards, elbow pads, and quad skates for safety.

Is insurance provided? A secondary, mandatory insurance through USA Roller Sports (USARS) is provided at a cost of $35 per year to the skater. This must be purchased prior to their first practice. However, junior derby skaters must also provide proof of primary insurance.

Will my 7 year old be playing with 17 year olds? No, generally, the juniors will be split into the following age groups:

  • Lils, Positional Blocking (ages 7-11)
  • Bigs, Full Contact (ages 12-17)
  • Refs, No Contact (ages 7-17)

Is junior derby a contact sport? Yes, however with our juniors, we concentrate and teach positional blocking instead of hits. There will still be some contact as expected but positional blocking is the goal in junior derby.
