Brown County Commissioners adopted the county’s 2010-2011 budget as well as the 2010 property tax rate in a special meeting on Friday afternoon at the Brown County Courthouse.
“We are in a very unique situation today where we’re going to be looking at adopting a budget, the actual expenditures of which will be less than the expenditures were in 2010,” said Brown County Judge Ray West.
The budget’s expenditures were slashed by more than $500,000 compared to last year with the general fund looking at spending $10,350,390 in 2010-2011.
The approved county tax rate for 2010 was 0.4394 per $100 valuation and 0.0775 for road and flood which is a slight decrease over last year. The county is expected to raise $160,000 more tax revenue than last year in from new property that was added to the tax roll since last year’s budget was adopted.
Commissioners also voted to keep compensation for county elected officials the same as the previous fiscal year.
Due to a change in date of this budget adoption meeting by county commissioners, an additional vote to ratify the budget and tax rate approvals will be held on October 12th.
