Brown County Commissioners Court unanimously approved on Monday the use of a county stenographic machine and the use of a jury room for the National Archives project here in Brown County. The National Archives Project gives an oral history from veterans of all American wars. This process will include an interviewer, video recording, and a stenographic record of the interview.
This project is spearheaded by Nannell Mooney, Court Reporter for Judge Frank Griffin’s office. Mooney does have a personal stenographic machine, but requested the use of the county’s machine, due to the type of recording it is capable of.
“Apparently these documents for the Library of Congress have to be in particular electronic format in order to be accepted. Her private machine does not record electronically in that format, so she wants to use the county machine,” said Judge Frank Griffin.
Judge Griffin also requested the use of his jury room for interviews, after hours.
Other matters on the agenda today included:
*Commissioners approved a pay raise for an elections office employee out of the Chapter 19 funds.
*Commissioners approved a contract between the Sherriff’s offices of Brown County and McCulloch County to house McCulloch County prisoners for $45 a day. McCulloch County will also be responsible for medical and prescription costs of the inmates.
*Also improved by Commissioners was the purchasing of a welding trailer for Precinct #3, and a replacement employee for Precinct #2.
