As many people are gearing up for holiday events, those looking to run for political office are watching the calendar closely.
Thursday opened the filing period for candidates in the upcoming 2010 primary elections for state and county offices. Only a handful of candidates have officially announced running for county office, but officials in the Brown County Clerk’s office said that the bulk of the filings will come near the end of the filing period which cuts off on January 4th, 2010.
County offices that will be on the March 2nd 2010 primary election ballots are District Clerk, County Court at Law Judge, County Judge, County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Surveyor, County Commissioner Precinct 2, County Commissioner Precinct 4, and Justice of the Peace for all four precincts.
Although only a few have filed officially for their position on the ballot, courthouse records show that several potential candidates have filed for their appointment of a campaign treasurer which is usually the first indication that they intend on running for office.
