Brown County Commissioners approved a resolution Monday supporting the Senior Citizens’ Program application for Texas Department of Agriculture “Texans Feeding Texans: Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program.”
David Withers, Director of Parks and Recreation of the City of Brownwood, stated that the state grant money received each year through this program is used for delivery of senior citizens meals for the homebound.
This grant is established to provide partial funding for home delivered meal programs in Texas. The actual grant amount depends on how many organizations in the State of Texas apply for the grant. Brown County Commissioners participated by approving a similar resolution the past few years.
In the program, the county must contribute at least 25 cents per meal based on the number of senior citizens from the latest census. Within the last several years, that amount ranged from as low as $2,602 to high as $5,091. The Cities of Brownwood and Early also participate in the program which is administered by Brownwood’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Other items on the agenda included:
*An application to install a private line on CR 355 was approved.

*The appointment of several new election judges, due to the current judges not being able to serve because of illness, was approved.
*Billy Murphey presented the annual Report of Veterans Services. Murphey also informed the court of a Veterans outreach program that will be held on November 10th after the parade at the Depot. It will feature speaker General David Williams, and from 12-2 will feature businesses, VA and state representatives, so that veterans will be able to find out what benefits and services they offer.
*The court approved the filing for the re-plat of Flat Rock Park in the Brown County Water Improvement District #1.
*The court opted to make no action in a dispute regarding a citizen appealing a Notice of Public Nuisance Violation leaving it to the Sheriff’s department. The notice was issued to the landowner when the fire department responded to a fire on his neighbor’s property in which the department had difficulty passing through his property to put out the fire. The citizen’s possessions were blocking the path to the fire. The citizen claims that he does not want to remove his property because he does not see the harm in them being there, and states that he has further use for them. The representative for the Sherriff’s department stated that they would be willing to work with the citizen to resolve the issue.
