commissionercourtarticlepicBrown County Commissioners met Monday on a short agenda with the most important subject being approval of a bid for an electric provider.

Commissioners unanimously approved the bid TXU Energy offered the county at a rate of 0.06062/kwh under a 3 year contract term.  This was decided after Brown County Judge Ray West expressed his thoughts of not going longer than 2-3 years on a contract.   Commissioner Richard Gist also expressed concerns of increased rates in the future, not knowing what fuel costs might be at that time.

“No telling where the economy will go in a year,” stated West.

A citizen expressed their concern over rates increasing with inflation in later years and rates being very good currently, asking the court to consider the longer term of the contract.

In other business, Commissioner Joel Kelton presented an application for a communication line installation on CR 552 by Windstream.  This installation will run in the easement of a caliche road and no cutting of the road will be necessary for completion.  Commissioners approved the installation, which will be done to county specifications.
