Brownwood News – The Brownwood City Council met Tuesday, October 22 and carried out business in 30 minutes.

They held a Public Hearing and voted unanimously to approve, on First Reading, an Ordinance changing zoning on property at 3100 Stephen F. Austin Drive from C1 Local Business District and C2 General Business District, to M1 Restricted Industrial District.  Ms. Julie Gribble, along with future property owner TXR Railroad, requested the zoning change on 10.35 acres for the purpose of developing the property to become a storage and transloading yard for TXR Railroad.

The Council voted unanimously to approve the Meet and Confer Agreement between the City and Brownwood Professional Firefighters Association for a one year term lasting through September 30, 2020.

Lastly, the Council voted unanimously to ratify action of the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board to purchase 3.22 acres on CC Woodson Road as a source of fill dirt for current and future retail projects.  The land is adjacent to the Pecan Bayou that would supply the City/BMDD with enough fill dirt for multiple future retail projects that are in the floodplain or floodway.  The BMDD has negotiated a sales contract on the property for $200,000 which is owned by Kent and Waren Price.  The agreement has a 45-day option period.  A Phase 1 environmental study has been ordered for the property and the seller is going to provide a new survey.  According to the City, having the dirt available as part of a possible incentive package, helps the BMDD pitch properties in the retail corridor more effectively.
