Funeral services for Coszett Oakes, age 89, of May, will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the May Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Coszett passed from this life on Sunday, March 16th surrounded with love by her family, as well as her “Songbird” family after a lengthy illness.
Coszett was born on July 11, 1923 to Edgar and Viva Burnett. She married Osbourn Oakes in November 1972. She was a homemaker, she loved fishing, playing 42 and was an avid collector of clocks. She was a lifelong resident of May.
Coszett is survived by her brothers, Ira Lee Burnett and wife Cynthia of Waco and Edward Burnett of Rising Star, and Jerry Burnett and wife Alberta of May; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Osourn in 1979, her parents, her sisters, LaVonne Burnett, AvaNell Stewart, Eloise Hopper, and Inez Franklin; two brothers, Howard and Morris Burnett.
