It was not difficult to find a nice BBQ brisket meal for lunch on Sunday.
Friends of Brownwood High School student Shylah Cutbirth held up signs and tried to get the attention of drivers to come and join the brisket cookout for a good cause.
The lunch was served on Sunday in the parking lot where Dairy Maid used to stand on Coggin Avenue. A steady stream of hungry people came from around town to get a meal to take home for only $8.
All of the proceeds collected will go to help pay for Shylah’s Muscular Dystrophy treatment that is not covered by her insurance.
Several churches around town sent their parishioners to participate in this benefit while friends, family and volunteers proudly wore pink shirts at the event stating “Standing with Shylah” as they happily prepared and served the meals.
Another benefit for Shylah is coming up this week involving the recent Hands on a House competition from the Brownwood Reunion Celebration.
Organizers of the event are selling football squares for $50 each for the Brownwood Lions homecoming game against Graham on October 23rd. The square with the correct final score wins the playhouse from Hands on a House donated by Zach Peterson (click here for more info on the Hands on a House). There will be gift card prizes for correct end of quarter scores as well.
